Improve Your Focus

Improve Your Focus. People aren't multi-taskers; we just switch from one task to another. So if you want to make less mistakes, get work done faster, and generally be more productive it's best to focus on one thing at a time. In this post are four things that van help you improve your focus.
The most important asset of any investor or entrepreneur is time. Given enough time, even a small investment in an ordinary time-deposit account can become a huge windfall.

And because we can't buy or create more time, we have to make sure that we maximize our opportunities today. But despite appearances, people aren't multi-taskers; we just switch from one task to another. So if you want to make less mistakes, get work done faster, and generally be more productive it's best to focus on one thing at a time.

So in this article, I'd like to suggest some things that can help people focus more and get more out on their time.

Get more sleep - it may sound counter-intuitive, given that our main goal is to get more things done. But getting enough rest can make sure we are more alert and able to think deeply and more clearly. Personally, I've found that I can get more things done and understand problems better after a good night's sleep. But even for people who are night owls, getting enough sleep is necessary. Very, very few people can actually function better with little sleep, and chances are we aren't one of them (even if we think we are).

Exercise - yet another activity that will take time away from the things we need to accomplish. But guess what, exercising the body is exercising the brain. And did you read about how we might actually owe our big brains to exercise?

Meditate - Ok, you don't actually have to wear a toga or sit in the dark surrounded by candles (at least that's how I pictured meditation). What's important is to have some silence or privacy and train yourself not to think about everything at once. Try to forget all the other stuff that needs doing (that's what a checklist is for) and focus on just one thing at a time. It's going to be difficult at first, but after a while, you'll be able to do push out the "noise" and focus on the task at hand, making you more productive.

Eat right - Who can think on an empty stomach, right? And especially don't skip breakfast. A healthy breakfast can actually improve brain function.

And beware of foods high on sugar. The sugar rush might give you a boost in the short term, but the inevitable sugar crush might not make it worth it, unless you've got just a small amount of work left to accomplish.
